Welcome to the Somerville Public Schools! Our focus is the recruitment, development, and retention of outstanding employees committed to fostering educational excellence.
The Somerville Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer and strongly supports diversity and an inclusive workplace. We offer a richly diverse educational community in an environment that values and embraces differences. More than 50 native languages are represented among our student population, with English, Spanish, Portuguese and Haitian Creole the four primary languages. Our students and staff experience the many benefits of living in an exciting, global tight-knit community.
Our district is committed to diversifying our teacher populations by exploring teacher pipelines and working with other districts through MPDE to strategize about gaining diversity in our teacher populations. Join the team and be part of a dynamic and progressive multicultural community. Thank you for your interest in joining our professional team.Q: What’s Somerville like to work and/or live in?
Our commitment is to the whole child. Our district is a multicultural school community dedicated to the realization of the full intellectual, physical, social and emotional potential of all students. In this pursuit, we shall maintain a safe environment that nurtures the curiosity, dignity and self-worth of each individual. We believe in developing the whole child – the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical potential of all students by providing students with the skills, opportunities, and resources that will nurture innovative ideas, foster pride in diversity, inspire students to become lifelong learners and empower them to enrich their communities.Q: What type of support do you offer new teachers?
Somerville Public Schools provides all new teachers with mentors and professional development that addresses the learning curve that most new teachers experience.Q: What general attributes does Somerville seek in teachers?
We are striving to develop, recruit and retain dually certified teachers who specialize in both English as a Second Language and/or Special Education. We also provide internships for those teachers who are seeking a second license.Q: Any tips for teachers who are interested in applying to your district?
Come prepared with lesson plans as many principals will ask you to conduct a lesson with their students. Be yourself – the best that you can be.
