Methuen Public Schools enrolls approximately 7000 in a total of five schools. Methuen Public Schools has four PK-8 schools: the Comprehensive Grammar School, the Marsh Grammar School, the Tenney Grammar School, the Timony Grammar School, and and one comprehensive high school: Methuen High School. We are a diverse sub-urban/urban community and designated a Gateway City. Our schools celebrate diversity and acceptance of students and families from differing backgrounds. Q. What kind of support does Methuen offer new teachers?
Methuen Public Schools offers a 3 day New Teacher Induction program each year in August followed by 2 full years of a mentoring program. There are mentors in every school and new teachers are matched up with a grade level, role alike, or content specific coach to work with all year during year 1. There are department heads and administrators in each building who are there to support new teachers as well. Methuen has five half days for professional development built into its calendar as well as one full day of professional development in November.

Q. What is it like to teach in Methuen?
Methuen is an urban/suburban city on the border of New Hampshire. We are located right in between route 93 and route 495. Methuen is a diverse community that celebrates traditions and different cultures. The Loop is located in the center of the city and offers movies, shopping, and dining. Methuen has many things to offer residents but also has a town feel.

Q. What general attributes does Methuen seek in new teachers?
We want new teachers to embrace diversity in every classroom and understand the importance of building positive relationships with every student. We want teachers to set high expectations for every student. We want teachers to understand that we teach the holistic child through our content, social emotional learning, and mental health support.

Q. How does Methuen demonstrate that it is committed to teacher diversity?
We have made diversifying our staff one of our goals. Methuen is 47% white and 53% Hispanic, Multi-race, African American and Asian. It is critical that our students have role models around them that look like them. Our principals are focused on professional development work with equity in our schools and it starts with our leaders.
